There's a feeling that Australian cricket no longer has the depth of a few years ago. Watching the IPL today, it occurred that it's about drift as much as depth - an entire team has drifted towards the half-life of international retirement, or floated in and out of favour.
An approximate Ashes XI:
Katich
Hughes
Ponting
M Hussey
Clarke
Haddin
North
Johnson
Lee
Siddle
Clark
And these boys might give them a decent game:
Hayden
Jacques
Hodge
D Hussey
Marsh
Symonds
Gilchrist
Warne
Nannes
Bracken
Tait
Where's your money?
The IPL seems to have been thoroughly infiltrated by Australians - especially Victorians. Is Jrod in league with Lalit?
ReplyDeleteI will never discount a team with Warne in it, but if ur playing a test then the current Aussie side will win against the other any day.
ReplyDeleteIf u play a 20-20, well then the IPLers will have a field day.
Ceci: that just has to do with Victoria being 3 time 20-20 champs.
Yes, good point, as I was typing it up, I thought the second XI would probably win a T20 game but not a Test. Still, it's better than an england second XI. started on one of those and then gave up.
ReplyDeleteWell, Q, with you on that. Any team with Warne/Gilly must not be counted out. Even if it is a test, I believe Warne has the wherewithal to run rings around Ponting, Clarke etc. He can destroy them in a session or less. With luck, even the test will be won by the veterans
