What's words worth

Rock lyrics that aren't about cricket but could be - Number One in an occasional series:

'Bring me my broadsword, and a cross of gold as a talisman...'
- Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull

An opening batsman, about to bat...?

Selectors to players who opt to miss tours:

"Really don't mind if you sit this one out"

Superb! Maybe we could just keep it to Tull...

Better still, let's just keep it to 'Thick as a brick'

"The elastic retreat rings the close of play
as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way."

Seems to be some sort of reference to the rise of T20 ('newfangled way')

"I've come down from the upper class to mend your rotten ways.
My father was a man-of-power whom everyone obeyed."

Chris Cowdrey's speech to the England team when he became captain in 1988...

"And you wonder who to call on.
So! Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday?
And where were all the sportsmen who always pulled you though?"

- The lament of every club cricket team selector on the day after your side turn up for game with only eight players.

There was me thinking it was about Little Milton and it was about cricket all along...

'And you ride yourself over the fields..'

beautiful!

And anyone who takes guard 'one leg' is paying unconcious homage to Ian Anderson...
